Who this is for
Boarding stables, horse farms, cattle operations, and multi-animal properties across North Central Florida.
Running a boarding barn means feeding multiple horses on a schedule. A container on-site keeps you stocked and removes the weekly store run from your plate.
From a single horse property to a larger operation, buying hay by the container means fresher hay in bulk, at the same per-bale price as walk-in retail.
High-volume feeding calls for a high-volume solution. One container delivery replaces a dozen small runs and keeps hay weatherproof and on hand the day you need it.
Why container loads make sense
A container on your property means no last-minute trips to the store, no driving in bad weather, and no waiting on delivery windows. Pull a bale when you need it.
A steel container is one of the best hay storage options in Florida. Rain-tight walls and a raised floor keep moisture and rodents out. Add basic ventilation for long-term storage and your hay stays clean.
Same lab-tested hay as our retail store, same per-bale price, no bulk markup. One container delivery replaces a dozen small runs to the store, and buying hay in bulk this way keeps it weatherproof and on hand the day you need it.
Available varieties
Container loads come in any of our in-stock varieties: Premium Alfalfa for performance horses, Timothy 1st and 2nd cut for low-sugar everyday feeding, Teff Grass for horses with metabolic issues (EMS, Cushings, IR), Orchard Grass for picky eaters, our alfalfa and timothy blends, and Peanut Hay. You can split one container across as many types as you want.

Who you are buying from
Farmers Direct Hay and Feed is owned and run by Delmar and Trennis Ropp out of our store at 21091 NE US Hwy 27 in Williston. We grow the bulk of our hay on our own high-desert farms in Nevada and bring in select loads from Alberta, Canada. The container service grew out of our own delivery operation.
You can call us, stop by the store, or send the form below. We answer the phone.
Tell us your hay mix and delivery address. We will call you to confirm the split, the price, and a delivery time. Prefer to talk now? We pick up the phone.
After you send this, we call you back to confirm your hay mix, the container load, and a delivery date.
Looking to buy an empty container?
This page is the hay delivery service (container full of hay, swapped when empty). If you want to purchase a 20-foot steel container outright, see our shipping containers for sale page (used $2,000 / one-trip $3,800).
Common questions
We load a 20-foot container with your chosen hay, deliver it to your property, and leave it there for you to use. When the container is empty, call us and we bring a full one and take the empty back. No additional delivery charge on the swap. Most customers call before 30 days are up.
About 130 bales in a standard 20-foot container. The exact count can vary a little by bale size and how tight we stack, but plan on roughly 130.
Delivery is FREE within 40 miles of our Williston store at 21091 NE US Hwy 27. Beyond 40 miles, give us a call and we will quote your address. We do not have a published rate past 40 miles because the cost depends on where you are.
The first 30 days of on-site storage are included. After that, storage is $25 per week. Most customers have us swap before the 30 days are up, so the extra storage charge rarely applies.

It depends on how many animals you feed and which hay you choose, but as a rough guide, a busy boarding barn feeding 8 to 10 horses often goes through a container load in about a month, while a smaller 3 to 4 horse property can stretch one container across two to three months. Either way, most customers swap or refill before the first 30 free storage days are up.
No. The hay-by-the-container service means we deliver a container full of hay that stays on your property while you use it, then we swap it when empty. You are buying the hay at normal per-bale prices, not the container itself. If you want to buy an empty container outright, see our shipping containers for sale page.
No permit is needed. The container works like a provided storage unit or trailer: we deliver it, you use it, we take it back. You will want a clear, reasonably level spot with enough room for our truck to get in and out.
At the same per-bale prices as our standard retail hay. There is no extra markup for the container service. You pay for the hay you load; the swap delivery is included.
The container service comes as a full container load, about 130 bales, and the form lets you split that across whichever hay types you want. If you need less than a full container, order our regular delivery instead: there is no minimum, and we will bring even a single bale within our delivery area.
